School Days

Well, I've decided to go back to school. I'm really excited about it and know I'm doing a great thing for our family. (Even if it means extreme penny-pinching for a few years.)

I currently have a BS in Family Sciences, Child Development. Well, I found a program through a local university that I'm really excited about. It's a Master's in Nursing with a certification as a clinical nurse leader. It's designed for people who have a BS in a field other than nursing. It's a 2 year program and I hope to be accepted in the July 2009 group. I have to take a few courses at a community college that I did not need for my Bachelor's and am doing that now and in the spring.
I'm taking two classes online this semester and then going in for the lab component. I hope to do the same for the two classes I'll be taking next semester.

I know it'll be hard with the babies, but I know I can do it. And I'd rather do it now while they are young.

I'm really excited about it like I said. I've already logged on to the site where my online classes are even though they don't start for another week.

Getting Better At This

Look at me posting again!

Today was a little rough. Rea just does not want to sleep. And I think I need nap time just as much as they do! She only slept for about 45 minutes with the first nap. (And that was after me rocking her for a long time- didn't work- and finally just giving up and putting her in her crib.) Then for the second nap, I'm not sure she even slept for 30 minutes. I don't know if it's because she's teething or about to hit a few milestones or a growth spurt or all the above.

Then while feeding them their dinner they both thought it would be tons more fun to smear green beans on each other.

Honestly, I that point I was tired and frustrated and just left them to it for a few minutes. I just walked away and had some down time. Came back and they still thought it was hilarious. It was not fun cleaning green beans from their entire bodies. But at least at that point I could laugh (a little) about it.

Good news is they are both asleep right now. And I'm going to indulge in something that's completely unhealthy and read a book.

G'night.

Swing

I took the kids to a nearby park last night. We ended up going around 7:30 when it had cooled off just a bit. I put them in an infant swing (together) and they really enjoyed it! But I forgot my camera, so we'll have to go back soon and get photographic proof.

J 'cruised' from the coffee table to the couch twice this morning. That's the first he's gone from one object to another. (Usually he'll only cruise to a person- specifically me or John.) And Rea has started getting up on all fours, but she still army crawls to get anywhere. (And it's never very far!)

Also, J started stringing the 'mamamama' sound together last night. He's only done it the one time though, and it doesn't count as a word until he means it. Right now he's still just making sounds.

Rea has discovered Daisy (the dog). She laughs anytime Daisy is around her. It's really cute actually. And she likes to grab at Daisy, too. Daisy is smart enough to get out of her reach when she does this though.

Both are upstairs napping so I think I'll take this time to go relax!

Back Again

Maybe one day I will actually make this blog what I wanted it to be when I started it!

The babies are now almost 8 months old. That's crazy to me. It just seems like we were going through the newborn haze and wondering if we'd ever get out of it!

Jason has 6 teeth- 2 bottom, 4 top. Rea just had her first bottom tooth break through. Poor thing has seemed a lot more miserable with this teething business than her brother. (I don't think it phases him, but his come in super fast too.)

J is a master crawler. He's everywhere! And he's a happier baby now that he has just that little bit of Independence. Rea pretty much only army crawls and she'll only do that if there's something she really wants. (And she will think about it first!)

J is also pulling up on everything. He won't cruise from one thing to another very often. He'll usually only cruise to either me or John. But he's so proud every single time he does it.
Rea hasn't even tried getting to her knees yet. I'm not worried. She's just so much more laid back. She just has not found a reason to yet!

I'm supposed to be letting them self feed fist food. (Biter biscuits and the like.) But that's been harder than I thought it'd be. Not for them. For me. I'm a nervous wreck anytime something goes near their mouths that they can't just suck down. Must get over that.

I'm looking for a job. My time as a SAHM is coming to an end. (Well, should I ever find a job that is...) I'm both excited and sad about that. I'm so grateful for the time I've had with them, and would love to have more time. But I'd also like to have the money for us to do things as a family other than sit around the house! And I think it will be good for me mentally.

We did get back 'home' for about a week in early July. That was so much fun and the babies got to see lots of family. They were so good the entire trip. They slept great in the co-sleeper even though they had to share space. (J did become quite the paci thief though!)

I think we are all ready for cooler weather to get here. It's miserable getting out in this heat right now. We are pretty much housebound and I hate that. Once it cools off we can go for walks and to the park again.

Hopefully I'll get better about updating...

3 Months Old

I still haven’t managed to update things around here very often!

The twins are now 3 months old. Jason rolled from his tummy to his back the other day. He did it 5 times and has refused to do it again! Stubborn boy! Reagan will grab things and hold on tight. She actually started reaching out and grabbing some of her favorite dangly toys.

The biggest news is that for the past three nights they have been sleeping in their room upstairs. For now they are sharing a crib. Two of those three nights they slept for 8 hours at a time, woke up to eat, and then slept for four more hours.

It has been great! Hopefully this will be a new trend in our house!

We’ve also been taking advantage of the amazing weather for the past few days and going for walks. John and I bought carriers (like backpacks that can be worn in front or back) and yesterday we just carried them for our walk. I think they both really liked that. They could see out.

On today’s walk I used the stroller, but didn’t put them in the car seats. They just sat there. They did pretty good. And again, I think they really enjoyed it because they could see where we were going.

I’m really looking forward to more nice weather!

Hopefully I’ll add some pictures soon!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy First Valentine’s Day to Reagan & Jason!!

The twins will be 10 weeks old tomorrow.

They are getting so big and learning new things all the time. Yesterday Rea followed a toy until it was out of her sight! And she is starting to ‘talk’ up a storm. Whatever is in her line of vision, she’ll have a conversation with it. Right now she seems particularly stuck on the ‘A’ and ‘O’ sounds.
Jason will talk, but not as much as Rea. And he seems to be a bit more particular on who and what he’ll talk to. Silly boy.

They are still sleeping in their swings for the most part, but that’s about to change. They will start sleeping in the co-sleeper at night and maybe napping in the swings. I’m reading a book now about developing healthy sleep habits so hopefully that will help us.

Other than that, there’s not much going on in our world. Hopefully they’ll get their first professional pictures sometime next week. That should be fun! I’m still looking for coordinating outfits though! I thought blue jean overalls were very popular among the infant group, but I can’t find them for 0-3 months! I found the cutest blue jean dress for Rea and I wanted to coordinate Jay in some overalls, but the search continues…

2 Months Already!

Well, I need to get better about updating things around here!

Jason and Reagan had their 2 month check-up and are doing great.
Rea is 9lbs and 22 inches.
J is 8lbs5oz and 22 inches.

They are slowly starting to go longer at night now. (With some help from Mom and Dad...) We're now stretching their night feedings to 4 hours. It's nice to get a little more sleep!

They are both starting to stay awake for longer periods during the day and it seems like they are noticing more things around them.

They love their activity mat and both do pretty well with tummy time. And both can hold their heads up pretty well. Not for long, but they are getting stronger.

And they are smiling now! I love it! Rea seems to smile a little more, but she is the less intense baby.

John and I can't go out without getting many twin comments. We don't mind, but it's funny how much attention two babies get. (John says twins would be great for the single man. Women flock to him when he has them.)

I'll post pictures very soon...
